Statement: Congestion Pricing Is a Critical Step Toward Making the "Fairest Big City in America" Truly Fair

Statement of Transportation Alternatives Senior Director of Advocacy Thomas DeVito on the congestion pricing plan announced Tuesday morning

"For more than a decade, Transportation Alternatives has been advocating for congestion pricing, with a strong coalition, as a way to make New York City streets equitable for all New Yorkers, especially the majority of residents who do not own or drive a car. New York City needs more funding for its transit system and more space for people who walk, bike and ride buses. Congestion pricing is a critical step toward making the Fairest Big City in America truly fair, and we commend Mayor de Blasio and Governor Cuomo for coming together on this issue. Now it's up to the state legislature to finish the job and pass congestion pricing in 2019."
