Statement: Giving 14th Street Back to New Yorkers

Statement of Danny Harris, Executive Director of Transportation Alternatives, on the launch of the 14th Street busway:

“New Yorkers who ride the M14 -- the city’s slowest bus route -- are finally getting the swift crosstown trip they deserve. In addition to giving bus riders precious time back, the busway will reduce congestion and air pollution along one of the city’s key thoroughfares. The 14th Street busway will move 27,000 New Yorkers a day and set a new standard for transit in New York City, serving as a model for what’s possible with dedicated busways across the five boroughs. 

Transportation Alternatives sends its gratitude and congratulations to Mayor Bill de Blasio, Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, Council Speaker Corey Johnson, Council Members Keith Powers and Carlina Rivera, numerous partner organizations and countless volunteers for supporting the busway plan and seeing it through to fruition.”
