Don’t Put the Brakes on Progress.

This bill would grant the NYPD new powers to stop and question New Yorkers riding bikes, increasing police-civilian interactions.

Wondering how to testify at a City Council hearing? Here's everything you need to know!
Everyone should have the freedom to choose how they get around — including e-bikes and e-scooters. These new modes of transit are the future, and they’re a climate-friendly transportation option that help everyday New Yorkers bring their kids to school, commute to work, visit the doctor, and more. They’re especially critical for New Yorkers with disabilities, older adults, parents with young children, and workers who rely on them for long hours on the road.
They fill gaps in New York City’s transportation system and are widely used—more than half of bike share trips involve electric Citi Bikes, and one in ten New York City bike owners owns an e-bike. They’re cheaper than a car and often more reliable than transit.
E-bikes and e-scooters need our support. E-bike users are much more likely to be injured by a car or truck than to injure a pedestrian, and we need to focus on keeping everyone safe on our roads. This looks like protected bike lanes, pedestrian-only spaces, safe battery swap programs, and more.
